While Work Guidance was the primary focus of APC’s foray into the world of Dozuki, we have discovered a number of other powerful applications for the platform. This blog entry details our experience to date in using Dozuki to support training activities.
Data Capture is the Dozuki feature designed to collect metrics, such as measurements of key dimensions or time spent on a given step, as a technician follows a guide. This enables an organization to track productivity trends, the sequence of activities in a process, and capture Quality metrics to demonstrate conformance and consistency. The captured data can be viewed in .pdf (each cycle through the guide generates a single .pdf document) or .csv formats which capture data from all cycles to-date in one spreadsheet. Naturally the captured data can be downloaded and manipulated.
The team at APC realized that this feature could also be used to facilitate self-training. As a result, our Dozuki Authors are now creating Training Guides for all sorts of proficiencies. These Guides present training information in Dozuki’s standardized step-by-step format, with pictures and videos supporting the text. Questions are then embedded in the Data Entry fields for each step. Personnel review the information in the steps, and then answer the questions.
Since the platform is cloud based, training can be done anywhere, even at home or from a tablet, cellphone, or work station. And multiple personnel can take the training simultaneously. Once the trainee fills in all of the answers, the Complete Guide button is clicked, generating an instant personalized record for the trainer to review. The .pdf file for each completed guide is then saved to the employee’s file as a permanent record of training and competence.
And meanwhile, the trainer’s expenditure of time has been reduced by more than 90% compared to the PowerPoint classroom strategy we used before we discovered Dozuki.
